Trace the bottom of the can on a piece of cardboard. Cut out the round.
Make three or four evenly-spaced, 1/8-inch holes in the cardboard with an awl or hole punch.
Place the can in a table clamp so that the base of the can is facing up.
Place the cardboard on the bottom of the can, and use the holes in the cardboard to mark the can.
Dent the can at each mark with an awl, a center punch or a spot drill.
Drill an 1/8-inch hole at each mark.
Remove burs around the hole with a countersink bit or a rasp.
Repeat for one or more cans; each can will form one compartment of the organizer.
Remove the labels from each can for a plain, industrial finish. Or wrap each can with bits of decorative paper, and decoupage to seal.
Trace the cardboard hole template to mark the wall where you will place the cans. Arrange cans in a neat, orderly row or scatter them in an organic fashion for a statement piece. Leave some space between each can to make dusting easier.
Hold cans over the spaces to make sure that placement is as desired.
Mark the drill holes on the wall using the template or the cans.
Drill a hole at each mark. Insert a wall anchor into each hole.
Align the holes in the base of the can with the holes on the wall. Drive a screw into each hole with the screw driver or the drill.
