Turn a refrigerator box sideways with the shortest side facing down to be used as the base.
Cut a wooden dowel rod to fit the width of the box using a saw. Sand down the edges to create smooth ends.
Cut holes in both sides of the box using a box cutter. Make the holes six inches from the top of the box.
Insert the dowel rod through the holes, starting from the outside of the box and pushing the dowel rod through until it comes out the other side through the second hole.
Hang lightweight items on hangers inside the box.
