Toiletry Storage Ideas

An organized bathroom keeps you on schedule and allows you to stay calm during hectic mornings. Storage doesn’t necessarily mean drab plastic containers. Many storage items can be made to look like attractive accessories. Rather than dealing with a scattered hodgepodge, arrange your toiletries for ease of accessibility.
  1. Bags

    • Shoe bags and makeup bags are only two kinds of bags that store toiletries effectively. Shoe bags are available in clear plastic and have dozens of pockets that can store more than just shoes. Hanging a shoe bag on your bathroom door, drop in lipsticks, deodorant, hair products and even a pair of slippers into its pockets and you’ll have them all at your fingertips. The pockets don’t even need to be labeled. The clear plastic makes it simple to locate all your toiletries. A decorating option is to dress up the bag with ribbon trim attached using a hot-glue gun.

Homemade, roll-up makeup bags are handy for storing toiletries such as cosmetic brushes and other makeup. The project begins with roughly dividing the width of a hand towel into thirds and folding the towel lengthwise at its bottom one-third. Sew seams at its sides, and make pockets by stitching from the bottom to the top of the double-thickness. The pocket widths may vary to fit the items going into the bag. The top of bag folds down, and you may secure it in place with a ribbon.

    Vases

    • Vases can hold toiletries and decorate a bathroom, too. A wide-mouth vase on the bathroom counter top provides quick a storage place for a hot curling iron. The vase looks like part of the decor when its colors match the bathroom's theme. Using the vase prevents worry about setting the hot curling iron on the vanity and risking a burn mark.

    Train Case

    • A vintage train case has a hinged lid and convenient carrying handle, and its sturdy body ensures that the bottles it stores are safe. Medicines can be locked in the case. Keep the case's exterior as it is, or change it with decoupage. An option is to decorate the case to match the bathroom's theme and use it as an attractive accessory, or store it neatly beneath the sink.

    Baskets and Shelves

    • Decorative baskets, including wicker baskets, can store various toiletry items, and placing the baskets on bathroom shelves keeps them out of the way but nearby. Vary the sizes of baskets you use depending on the items they store. Hairbrushes, makeup, rolled face towels and wrapped or unwrapped bath soap all can be placed in baskets. Wrapping color-coordinating ribbon around the baskets makes them match the room's colors.
