Stackable washers and dryers can help to maximize the space in a tiny laundry room. In addition, front-loading machines may fit under existing cabinets. If no existing cabinets are in the laundry room, take advantage of the space over front- loading machines and build counters right above the washer and dryer. Essentially, you are building the cabinet to fit over the machines instead of fitting the machines under the cabinet.
Shelving takes advantage of the vertical space in the small laundry room. Install shelves high up on the wall to use as much overhead space as possible. You can store the items you use infrequently on the higher shelves and keep soaps, fabric softeners and stain preparations on lower shelves within arm’s reach.
Add some hooks to the walls or behind a door to hold storage bags and totes. The totes and bags can hold extra soap and laundry supplies. You can also hang hats and other items that cannot go in the dryer. The hooks can hold hangers for clothing right out of the dryer. A tension rod mounted higher up on the walls can also hold hangers for clothing right out of the dryer.
Drying racks are a necessity in the laundry room for clothing that you must air-dry. Use foldable racks that you can put away when not in use. An expandable drying rack can mount on the wall and fold against it when the clothing is dry.
