How to Hold Carpet Mats Down

Carpet mats protect rooms and stop outside debris from invading your home. But they can also slide around at inopportune times, becoming displaced or even causing injury. Keeping your carpet mats in place requires you to use a rug-gripping adhesive known as carpet tape or a rug gripper. The adhesive keeps the mat secured to the floor even when trampled on constantly. Rug-gripping adhesive comes alone as rolled tape or with a small rubber mat.

Instructions

Measure the top width of your carpet mat. Cut two strips of the rug-gripping adhesive to the recorded measurement. If the rug-gripping adhesive came with a rubber mat, then cutting is not necessary; place the provided adhesive onto the rubber mat, peel back the plastic and lay the top portion of the rug onto the rubber mat. There are no additional steps to take if you use a rubber mat.

Determine where you want the top of the mat to lay and place the adhesive tape there plastic side up. Place the other strip of adhesive where the bottom of the mat will lay.

Peel back the plastic on both adhesive strips. Place the top of the carpet mat on the top strip and the bottom of the mat on the bottom strip. Press down on the mat to secure it in place.
