How to Keep Wires From Tangling

The back of your entertainment center or computer desk area can be a mess of tangled cords. Since the cords simply sit there, it's hard to understand how they can get tangled. It's time to get the tangles out and keep your wires neat and organized. Commercial products for completing this task abound, but you can get the job done using just a few items you probably have around your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Untangle wires that are currently tangled.

    • 2

Arrange the wires in their starting position. For example, your speaker wires would start at the speaker and your DVD wire would start at the DVD player. In some cases, such as with electrical cords, the wire is already in place.

    • 3

Gather all the wires that are going to the same destination, such as all of the wires that need to go to an electrical outlet or surge protector.

    • 4

Wrap tape or use twist ties at regular intervals as you bring the wires to the destination. This keeps all the wires together to prevent them from tangling.

    • 5

Loop any extra length of wire you have around your hand. Secure this loop in the middle with tape or a twist tie. It should look like a figure eight.
