Resurfacing a Non-Stick Pan

Non-stick pans are nearly ubiquitous in home kitchens, as they enable food to be cooked with less additional oil or fat. This type of cookware is coated with a durable non-stick surface; over time, however, the surface can wear off. Instead of purchasing a new and expensive non-stick pan, consider resurfacing it with non-stick surface repair spray, which you can find at most kitchen supply stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your pan thoroughly with warm water and dish detergent.

    • 2

Fill the pan with water and one tablespoon of vinegar. Put the pan on the stove and allow it to boil for at least five minutes. This will remove any oil and food residue that is still adhering to the pan.

    • 3

Wash the pan again with water and dish detergent. Wipe the pan dry with a clean cloth.

    • 4

Spray the pan with a layer of non-stick surface repair spray. Allow the pan to dry for at least one hour. In the meantime, pre-heat your oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 5

Remove the plastic handle from your pan if it has one, or otherwise check to make sure your pan is oven-safe. Place the pan into the oven and bake it for 45 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature.

    • 6

Wash the pan thoroughly with water and dish detergent again before using it.
