How to Build an Under the Cabinet Pull-Down Spice Organizer

A spice organizer mounted under a cabinet provides a convenient way to store and organize spices in the kitchen. The advantage over other types of spice racks and organizers is that an under-cabinet version can be placed directly above a counter's work surface. These types of organizers pull down for added convenience so you can access the spices you need. You can make your own DIY, pull-down, under-the-cabinet spice organizer using PVC pipes and magnets to create an affordable and easily customizable organizer.

Things You'll Need

  • 6 PVC pipes, 2 1/2-inch diameter, 6 inches
  • PVC pipe primer and cement
  • 6 PVC pipe caps, 2 1/2 -inch diameter
  • Craft cement
  • 12 disc magnets, 1-inch diameter

Instructions

    • 1

Place the PVC pipes on a work surface side-by-side so one end of each pipe is facing you.

    • 2

Apply PVC primer and cement to the end of each pipe that's facing you, and also to the inside of the six pipe caps, using the included applicators that came with the primer and cement.

    • 3

Slide the PVC pipe caps onto the ends of the pipes that are facing you. The primer and cement will form an instant bond to fasten the caps on the ends of the pipes.

    • 4

Apply a bead of primer and cement to the sides of the pipes where they join together side-by-side. Press the pipes together to form the organizer assembly. The primer and cement will form an instant bond to hold the pipes together.

    • 5

Apply a dot of craft cement to the top of six of the disc magnets. Center one magnet on top of each pipe in the center of the 6-inch length with the cement-side down. Press the magnets into place on the pipes. Allow the cement to dry for 24 hours.

    • 6

Place another magnet on top of each magnet fastened to the organizer assembly. Make sure that they stick to each other. Flip the magnet over if it doesn’t stick on the first try.

    • 7

Apply a dot of cement to the top of each upper magnet on the assembly. Press the magnets against the bottom side of the cabinet where you'd like the assembly positioned. Hold the assembly in place for a couple of minutes so the cement has time to set up enough to bear the weight. Allow the cement to dry for 24 hours before separating the assembly from the magnets that are cemented to the under side of the cabinet. The end of the assembly with the pipe caps will face the wall so the spices can slide into the pipes from the front.
