DIY Under Cabinet Trash Can Pull Out

Lay two 6-inch long, 1-by-2-inch pine boards parallel and flat on the workbench 10 inches apart.

Lay two 12-inch long, 1-by-2-inch pine boards flat on each side of the two 6-inch boards. The 12-inch board's edges should be flush with the 6-inch boards between the 12-inch boards to make a square.

Lay an 8-by-12-inch plywood board over the square so the edges of the plywood are flush with the edges of the pine square. Nail the plywood with a hammer to the square using 1-inch nails. Hammer in each corner and at 2-inch intervals along the edge of the plywood.

Attach the section of a drawer sliding bracket with the wheel centered along each 12-inch side of the plywood board. Install it 1/2-inch from the edge using 1/2-inch wood screws and a cordless drill. The screws may be included in the drawer sliding bracket package.

Attach a 15-inch wire handle with a clip at the top. Use 1-inch wood screws to attach the center of the 8-inch end of the wooden square furthest from the bracket wheels.

Mark the bottom of the cabinet under the sink with two parallel lines measuring 12 inches. The first line should be 1 inch from the cabinet wall and the second is 7 inches from the first line. Both lines are perpendicular to the cabinet door. Check the lines with a tape measure to guarantee accuracy.

Screw the section of the drawer sliding bracket without the wheel to each of the lines drawn on the bottom of the cabinet. Use 1/2-inch screws and a cordless drill. Some brackets have wheels on both sections, in which case it does not matter which bracket is placed on the cabinet base and the wooden square.

Flip the wooden square over and attach it to the sliding brackets in the cabinet by slipping the wheel into the bottom bracket, keeping the handle closest to the cabinet door and pushing the wooden square backward.

Set the trash can between the 1-by-2-inch pine boards into the 1-inch space.
