How to Build a Wall-Mounted Belt Hanger

A belt hanger organizes your belts and makes them all visible so it's easier to find the one you want. A variety of commercial options are available, including hangers that hang from a closet rod and those that mount to the wall. Making your own wall belt hanger gives you control over its final appearance so you can ensure it meets your decorative needs. The simple construction makes a belt organizer a suitable project for those with no previous woodworking experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 12-inch length from a 1-by-2-inch board with a saw. Sand the edges with a medium-grit sandpaper to even out the roughness, and finish with a fine-grit paper to smooth the edges completely.

    • 2

Paint the board with a thin coat of a glossy latex paint or wood stain. Allow the first coat to dry completely. Apply a second and a third coat as necessary.

    • 3

Lay the board face down. Measure 1/4-inch down from the top and 1/2-inch in from each short side. Mark the location with a pencil.

    • 4

Set two sawtooth picture hangers on the board, positioning the hangers over the pencil marks. Attach the hooks to the board with the small nails provided with the hooks.

    • 5

Turn the board over. Measure down the center of the board lengthwise with a measuring tape. Mark the board with a pencil at 1-inch intervals.

    • 6

Screw a cup hook into the board at each pencil marking. Adjust the hooks so the open side faces up when you hang the board on the wall.

    • 7

Hang the board in your desired location using the picture hangers. Hang belts by draping the buckle over a hook.
