How to Install a Kroken Ceiling-Mounted Utensil Rack

The Kroken ceiling-mounted utensil rack is a simple-to-install metal rack used to organize kitchen tools such as measuring cups, rolling pins and utensils. The rack consists of a rectangular frame and heavy-duty wires. The frame is suspended horizontally from the ceiling with four chains, one at each corner of the frame. To securely install the utensil rack, mounting hardware must be screwed into the ceiling joists. This simple project can be completed in under an hour and requires no special tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the positions of the ceiling joists where you plan to install the utensil rack. Two screw hooks will be installed in the joist(s). Depending on the orientation of the installed rack, the screw hooks may be installed in the same or adjacent joists.

    • 2

Mark the ceiling where the screw hooks will be installed so they will screw into the ceiling joists. For the suspension chains to hang vertically, the hooks should be spaced about 30 inches apart. It is not strictly necessary to hang the chains vertically. Drill a pilot hole into each mark, through the ceiling and into the ceiling joists. Screw a screw hook into each pilot hole until the curved portions of the screws meet the ceiling.

Hold the free ends of the two adjacent suspension chains from a short end of the rack in one hand. Use the other hand to connect the terminal (end) links with an S hook. Connect the remaining chains on the other end of the rack with another S hook. Hang the S hooks onto the screw hooks installed in the ceiling.
