How to Insulate Walls With Egg Crate

Egg crate foam, also called egg crate acoustic foam, comes in thick, soft sheets ideal for soundproofing. While they won't entirely block noise, they blunt the ability of sounds to pass from one space to another. If you have an office you need to keep quiet or a musical practice area you want to insulate from the rest of the house, use egg crate foam to fulfill your needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of the wall where you want to hang the egg crate foam.

    • 2

Cut a sheet of egg crate acoustic that matches those measurements, using the craft knife.

    • 3

Apply a thin layer of acoustic foam adhesive to the wall or flat portion of the egg crate foam. Where you apply the adhesive depends on the adhesive you use, so follow the application instructions on the container.

    • 4

Press the egg crate to the wall, making sure it's lying flat.

    • 5

Repeat steps 2 through 4 until you have completely covered the walls and insulated the room.
