How to Repair a Leather Chair

Leather is made from a variety of animal hides, including cow and deer. It is a popular choice for furniture such as couches and chairs. Accidents can happen and cracks, holes and scratches can form on your leather chair. Fortunately, repair kits are available at department and clothing stores; these will restore the look of your leather chair for a relatively inexpensive price. Look for a repair kit that matches the color of your chair.

Saturate a clean, soft cloth in warm water and wring out the excess liquid. Rinse the leather chair with the cloth. Dry with a soft towel.

    • 3

Apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol to a lint-free cloth or paper towels. Wipe the damaged area of the leather chair with the rubbing alcohol. Allow to air-dry.

    • 4

Spread the repair compound over the damaged area. Spread the compound about ½ inch outside the damage area.

    • 5

Wet your finger in cool water and smooth out the repair compound as much as possible. Allow the repair compound to dry.

    • 6

Add a few more drops of rubbing alcohol to the lint-free cloth. Wipe the compound with the cloth until it is completely smooth.

    • 7

Apply the clear coating that comes with the repair kit to the damaged area. Apply the coating in thin layers and allow to dry thoroughly. Several coats may be required to achieve the desired results.
