How to Clean a Tempur-Pedic Foam Mattress

A manufacturer of mattresses, Tempur-Pedic's foam mattresses conform to the shape of your body and remember the position you sleep in. The mattresses are durable, available in a variety of sizes, and accept sheets and other linens like traditional bedding. Like other bedding, the foam material eventually becomes dirty and needs cleaning. You don't have to take your Tempur-Pedic foam mattress outside or return it to the retailer to clean it. You can clean the foam material using regular household cleaners.

Instructions

  1. Making the Cleaning Solution

    • 1

Mix 3 cups of warm water and 1 cup of mild laundry detergent in a bucket. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands dry.

    • 2

Use a funnel to guide the mixture into a 16 oz. spray bottle. Shake the mixture gently from side to side.

    • 3

Take any linens off your Tempur-Pedic foam mattress and set them aside.

    Cleaning the Foam Mattress

    • 4

Spray the soap mixture on the foam material. Do not let the mixture soak into the material.

    • 5

Blot the foam immediately with a sponge to remove any dust, dirt and stains. For heavy stains, let the soap mixture sit on the spot for 3 minutes, then blot the stain to remove it. Note, blotting doesn't push the stain farther into the foam.

    • 6

Wet a soft cloth or rag with warm water from a sink. Wring out excess water. Wipe the foam mattress thoroughly with the damp cloth or rag to remove any soap residue.

    • 7

Press a large towel into your Tempur-Pedic foam mattress to dry the material. Let the mattress fully dry before redressing your bed.

If your foam mattress has an odor, do not redress the bed yet. Proceed to the “Removing Odors” section.

    Removing Odors

    • 8

Sprinkle baking soda evenly on your foam mattress.

    • 9

Let the baking soda sit for 5 minutes.

    • 10

Use your vacuum cleaner's crevice or brush attachment to remove the baking soda from your mattress.
