How to Get Rid of Chocolate Stains on Couches

Chocolate is a direct source of happiness for many people but can be cause for concern if it finds its way onto your sofa instead of your child's mouth. Because actual chocolate is less appealing as a piece of your decor, you may be wondering if there is a way to remove the evidence without ordering a new couch. Luckily, you can use everyday cleaning ingredients to remove that unfortunate chocolate stain, leaving your couch looking good as new.

Things You'll Need

  • Metal spoon
  • 2 bowls
  • Water
  • Ammonia
  • Liquid detergent
  • Measuring cup
  • 2 sponges
  • Paper towels

Instructions

      Scrape away any chocolate on the surface of the upholstery, using the edge of the metal spoon. Leave only chocolate that has soaked into the fabric.

      Measure 1/2 cup of warm water into the bowl. Add 2 tsps. of liquid detergent to the warm water, agitating the liquid to mix the detergent into the water.

      Saturate the sponge in the cleaning mixture. Dab the mixture onto the affected area of the upholstery, using the sponge.

      Allow the mixture to sit for two to five minutes.

      Blot the area dry with paper towels, pressing lightly and quickly onto the wet upholstery.

      Measure 1 cup of warm water into a second bowl and add 2 tbsps. of ammonia.

      Dip a clean sponge into the water and ammonia mixture, then dab the affected area of the couch fabric.

      Allow the mixture to sit for five to 10 minutes. Blot the area dry with paper towels, pressing lightly and quickly onto the wet upholstery.

      Repeat steps 5 to 11 as necessary until the stain has been completely lifted.
