The Best Ways to Clean a Living Room Chair

Living room furniture comes in an endless variety of styles, depending on the homeowner's taste. Leather furniture provides a rich bold look, while wicker chairs add a whimsical touch--but at some point, it all has to be cleaned. Most living rooms have traditional upholstered chairs with various fabrics. Each living room chair needs cleaning according to the material involved.
  1. Leather Chairs

    • Clean a leather chair by applying a leather cleaner and wiping clean. When removing a stain from a leather chair, let the cleaner work on the stain for 10 minutes before wiping away with a soft cloth. Lint-free cloths buff the leather to a high sheen. Applying a leather conditioner to the chair restores softness.

    Wicker Chairs

    • Vacuum wicker chairs with a sweeper attachment that removes dust and dirt embedded in the small crevices within the chair frame. The chair cushions can be vacuumed and spots removed with a liquid dish soap and water. You may also take the wicker chair outside and spray with a garden hose. After removing the excess water with clean cloths, the chair can remain outside in a shaded area to dry completely before being put back in the living room.

    Upholstered Chairs

    • Sweep upholstered chairs and cushions with a hand-held vacuum or sweeper attachment. Remove the cushion to sweep deep into pockets on the sides and the back of the chair. Blot stains from the fabric of the chair with a clean cloth dipped in soapy dish water. After removing the stain, dry the chair by pressing paper towels into the wet area to soak up liquid.
