How to Clean Plastic Porch Chairs

Plastic chairs are used on porches, patios, decks and lawns as outdoor furniture. The chairs are extremely durable, convenient and simple to move. Since outdoor chairs are constantly exposed to the weather, they quickly become marred with dirt and grime. After being left outside all winter, it's not surprising the chairs will require a thorough cleaning. Cleaning plastic porch chairs restores their appearances and causes them to shine again. Fortunately, basic cleaning solutions and materials are effective at restoring the chairs to their original luster.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 gallon warm water
  • Plastic bucket
  • 3/4 cup bleach
  • 1 tbsp. liquid laundry detergent
  • Garden hose
  • Rubber gloves
  • Clean rag
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Clean towel

Instructions

    • 1

      Pour 1 gallon of warm water into a plastic bucket. Add 3/4 cup of bleach and 1 tbsp. of liquid laundry detergent to the water.

      Spray the plastic chair with water from a garden hose. Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands from the cleaning solution.

      Dampen a clean rag in the solution. Rub the rag over an inconspicuous area of the chair to test for discoloration.

      Dampen a soft-bristled brush in the solution. Scrub the chair with the brush, working in small sections.

      Keep the solution on the chair for 15 minutes. Thoroughly rinse the chair with water from the garden hose.

      Wipe the chair with a clean towel. If you see dirt particles on the towel, repeat the entire process.
