How to Remove Pen Ink From Vinyl

Vinyl--also called fake leather or faux leather--is commonly used as a substitute for leather. Many items are made from vinyl including furniture, clothing and accessories. Everyday use of these items will cause them to become dirty, dingy and stained. A leaky pen or an overzealous child can cause unwanted pen ink marks on your vinyl item. Fortunately, there are a few methods that use common household items that may remove the pen ink marks from your vinyl items.

Instructions

  1. Butter

    • 1

Spread a thin layer of butter directly onto the light colored vinyl. Make sure to cover the pen ink stain completely with butter.

    • 2

Place the vinyl item in a sunny location for at least a few hours.

    • 3

Wipe the vinyl clean with a soft, damp cloth. Examine the area where the pen ink stain was. If the ink is still there, repeat the process.

    Hairspray

    • 4

Apply hairspray to the pen ink mark. Allow the hairspray to sit on the vinyl for several minutes but not long enough so that it dries.

    • 5

Rub the area gently with a paper towel. Wipe the vinyl clean with a damp cloth. Check the progress of the stain. If the pen ink is still present, continue to Step 3.

    • 6

Apply more hairspray to the pen ink mark. Add a drop of liquid dish soap. Rub the dish soap and hairspray into the vinyl with your finger. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
