Microfiber Sofa Cleaning Products

Available in various colors and styles, microfiber sofas are low maintenance and contain a stain-resisting agent that helps repel dirt and debris. The sofa's fabric is a blend of polyamide and polyester; it's durable and holds its shape over time. But microfiber sofas are not immune to dust, pet hair and loose dirt that require removal to keep the fabric looking like new. Various special chemicals, as well as household chemicals, are available for cleaning your microfiber sofa.
  1. Mild Detergent

    • A mild detergent, like dishwashing soap and laundry detergent, is one cleaning product for your microfiber sofa. The detergent requires water and a sponge to apply, and the detergent won't damage your microfiber sofa's fabric.

    White Vinegar

    • White vinegar, along with distilled water and baking soda, is a cleaner that will remove both dirt and odors from your microfiber sofa. Blot the stain first with a combination of equal parts white vinegar and distilled water, apply baking soda to the stain to draw the dirt from your sofa. Vacuum the cleaning solution with a vacuum cleaner.

    Water-based Cleaners

    • A commercial water-based cleaner is another cleaning product for your microfiber sofa. Look at your sofa's fabric tag for the letter "W," indicating that it is safe to use a water-based cleaner on the fabric. Use water-based cleaners only for spot cleaning; do not saturate your microfiber sofa with the chemicals. The cleaners are available at hardware and home improvement stores as well as online.

    Solvent Cleaners

    • For stains that mild detergent and water-based cleaners can't remove, a water-free dry cleaning or similar commercial solvent cleaner is safe to use on your sofa, but examine your sofa's fabric tag for the letter "S," indicating that a solvent cleaner is safe to use on your sofa.

If the letters "S-W" are present on the fabric tag, it is safe to use a water-based or solvent cleaner on your sofa's fabric. The solvents are available at hardware and home improvement stores as well as online. Note that commercial solvent cleaners do contain an odor; only use the cleaners in a well-ventilated area.

    Vacuum Cleaner

    • If your sofa's fabric tag contains the letter "X," a vacuum cleaner is the only cleaning agent you should use to remove debris. Use a vacuum cleaner that contains attachments, brush and crevice to help speed up the cleaning process and remove loose dirt that is hidden in your sofa's folds and cushions.

    Commercial Microfiber Sofa Cleaners

    • Available at hardware, furniture and home improvement stores, commercial microfiber sofa cleaners are designed for your sofa's fabric and won't damage the material. Use the cleaners according to the manufacturer's directions and only for spot cleaning. Note that commercial microfiber sofa cleaners do contain an odor; only use the cleaners in a well-ventilated area.
