Scrub the furniture with a wood-cleaning solution such as an oil soap. Use a soft-bristled brush.
Place the furniture outside or near an open window to help dissipate the odor.
Use a lemon-scented polish to counteract any remaining odors.
Sprinkle baking soda over the entire surface of the furniture.
Leave baking soda on the furniture for several hours or overnight.
Vacuum the baking soda off the furniture. Repeat if an odor remains.
In a bad odor remains after trying the baking soda method two or three times, wash the furniture with upholstery shampoo and a brush.
Move the furniture outside for a day to speed drying and air it out.
If the furniture still has an odor, consider having the furniture professionally cleaned.
