How to Clean Light Leather

Light-colored leather adds a feeling of luxury, whether on furniture, clothing or accessories. Leather is a natural, porous fiber with strength and versatility that lends itself well to many products. The only drawback to light-colored leather is that it shows dirt and stains more easily than its dark-colored counterpart. Though you may need to clean light leather a bit more frequently, the cleaning process is simple and can usually be done with products from home.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine 1 tbsp. each rubbing alcohol and water in a bowl. Dip a clean, lint-free cloth in the mixture to remove any mildew or mold stains present on the light-colored leather. Scrub the area with the cloth, then allow the leather to air dry.

    • 2
Always use white toothpaste for stain removal, rather than colored gel.

Dab white toothpaste onto a damp, clean cloth to tackle any other stains on the surface of the light leather. Scrub the stains in a circular motion, applying a bit more toothpaste for stubborn or large stains. Wipe the toothpaste and stain from the light leather with a damp cloth.

Mix 2 tbsp. white vinegar and 4 tbsp. food-grade linseed oil in a bowl. Stir the two ingredients well with a spoon. The vinegar and linseed oil combination works together to clean and condition light leather in the same application.

    • 4

Pour a quarter-sized amount of vinegar-and-linseed-oil solution onto a clean, white, lint-free cloth. Rub the solution into the surface of the leather to remove dirt. Add more of the solution to the cloth, as needed, and continue to swirl it onto the leather in circular motions.

Allow the vinegar-and-linseed-oil combination to sit on the leather surface overnight. Buff the leather the next day with a clean, lint-free cloth to add shine.
