Mildew Removal From Wooden Furniture

Mildew is a fungus that will grow on wooden furniture that is often damp. Mildew can stain wooden furniture and fill the area with a musty odor. When you find mildew growing on your wooden furniture, remove it as soon as possible to prevent further damaged. Many people opt to use all-natural mildew removers. Vinegar is all-natural item that, according to Gina Marion, Good Housekeeping magazine's microbiologist, can reduce mold and mildew by 90 percent. Vinegar can successfully remove all traces of the mildew without filling your home with harsh chemicals.

  • Plastic tarp
  • Spray bottle
  • Cloths
  • 2 buckets
  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar

Instructions

      Move the wooden furniture outside. Lay a plastic tarp out on the ground and place the wooden furniture on top of it. Keep the wooden furniture out of direct sunlight.

      Pour cool water into a clean spray bottle. Spray the mildew with the water. Wipe the mildew off the wooden furniture with a damp cloth.

      Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of cool water. Add 1/2 cup of laundry detergent and 1 cup of white vinegar.

      Saturate a clean cloth in the mixture and wring out the excess liquid.

      Scrub the wooden furniture gently with the cloth. When the cloth becomes dry or dingy, wring out and soak it the mixture again.

      Fill a clean bucket with cool water. Submerge a clean cloth in the water and wring out the excess liquid. Rinse the wood furniture with the cloth. Alternatively, rinse the wooden furniture with a water hose.

      Wipe the wooden furniture dry with a towel.
