How to Treat a Butcher Block

Treating butcher block can be done with a number of oils, but the owner must be sure never to use vegetable or cooking oils. These types of oils will cause the board to have a rancid smell and pass a bad flavor onto the items cut on the board. Treating the block is a fast process, but it must be left to sit overnight. This process should be completed each time the butcher block is used or at least weekly.

  • Pure raw almond oil, walnut oil or mineral oil

      Apply several coats of warm oil while wiping away excess.
