How to Remove Ink from Leather Couches

Leather is an expensive material made from the processed hide of animals. Leather is commonly used to create high-quality furniture, usually couches and chairs. During the course of your leather couch's life, it may become stained. Some stains -- such as ink -- are more damaging to your leather couch than others. Ink stains are difficult to remove from leather, but not impossible. There are a few methods that will remove ink stains and restore the look of your leather couch.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply rubbing alcohol to a cotton swab. Rub the ink stain with the cotton swab in a circular motion until the ink is removed from the leather couch. Use a hairdryer set on the lowest setting to dry the leather. If the stain is still present, continue with the remaining steps.

    • 2

Rub the ink with a lint-free cloth dampened with acetone-free nail polish remover. Continue rubbing the leather gently until the ink is no longer visible.

    • 3

Rinse the residue left from the acetone-free nail polish remover by gently wiping the leather couch with a clean, damp cloth. Wipe the area dry with a towel.

    • 4

Add a drop or two of a leather conditioner to a lint-free cloth. Rub the leather couch with the cloth. Allow the conditioner to sit for 30 minutes. Buff the leather with a dry, lint-free towel. During the ink removal process, the natural oils that keep the leather soft and protected are removed. Applying a leather conditioner will replenish these oils.
