How to Protect Hardwood Floors From Metal Bars on Couches

Hardwood floors are a big investment for a homeowner, and will beautify your home while adding to the resale value. The biggest downside to having hardwood installed is that the flooring can easily be scratched or gouged by furniture if the floor is not properly protected. An example of this type of damage is a couch with metal bars on the underside, which can scrape against the floor when the couch is moved. Proper protection will prevent damage to your hardwood floors.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the couch on its back to expose the metal bars, taking care not to gouge the hardwood floor.

    • 2

Using a lint-free cotton cloth that has been saturated with rubbing alcohol, clean the metal bars by rubbing vigorously to remove any dirt, grit and oily residues. Allow to air-dry for five minutes.

    • 3

Apply an adhesive-backed felt strip to the first metal bar by peeling off the protective paper that covers the adhesive, and then aligning the felt strip along the length of the metal bar. Press firmly into place by applying hand pressure the length of the strip.

Repeat the process with each metal bar, then return the couch to its upright position.
