How to Clean Pet Odor Out of Furniture

Keeping pets indoors protects them from the outside threats of traffic, fleas and wild animals. However, indoor pets occasionally relieve themselves in inappropriate places. Even after urine and waste particles are removed, unpleasant odors can remain on upholstered furniture. Any trace of remaining odor on furniture encourages them to use that area again. Promptly clean pet odor to complete the cleaning process, freshen the furniture and prevent future accidents.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with cold water. Liberally spray the upholstery to rinse out the pet odor and traces of old cleaners.

    • 2

Vacuum the furniture thoroughly with a wet vacuum--one designed specifically to deal with wet materials. Extract all the moisture from the upholstery with the vacuum attachment. Operate the vacuum according to the manufacturer's instructions

    • 3

Spray a small amount of high-quality pet odor neutralizer onto an inconspicuous area of the furniture. Pet odor neutralizers destroy animal odors on contact, instead of temporarily masking them. High-quality odor neutralizers contain enzymes that break down acid molecules in pet waste particles and completely eliminate odors.

Inspect the upholstery for damage or discoloration from the neutralizer. If no damages occur, spray the neutralizer generously over the affected area. Follow the manufacturer's directions on the product label. Allow the neutralizer to dry on the upholstery.
