How to Fix Spills on a Wooden Table

Wooden tables come in a beautiful array of colors and grains. Ash, oak, maple, mahogany and cherry provide unique finishes. Unfortunately, wood is not impervious to water damage. Water and other liquids can actually penetrate the wood's surface and cause staining. Spills and water rings from drinks can cause a beautiful wooden table to look less attractive. Such damage can be fixed by removing any moisture in the wood and applying an assortment of home remedies to minimize stains.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe up fresh spills immediately. Use a clean cloth and warm water. Allowing the spill to sit causes it to penetrate the wood.

    • 2

Heat the area. Put a soft cloth or towel over the area of the spill. Set an iron to the dry setting at low or medium heat. Press the iron over the cloth or towel for several seconds. Make sure the iron does not touch the wood finish or it may burn it.

    • 3

Apply a mix of white toothpaste and baking soda. Mix both together in equal amounts to form a paste. Rub the paste on any water stains for 20 minutes. Wipe the surface afterward with a clean soft cloth.

Mix mayonnaise and cigarette ashes together. Apply the mixture to the water stain and allow it to sit overnight. Rub the paste into the stain for 20 minutes. Wipe the surface with a clean soft cloth.
