How to Remove Wax Drippings From Furniture

Wax drippings on furniture are usually caused by melted candles. A crayon left near heat, however, will also begin to melt and leave wax drippings. Whatever the cause, wax will leave an unsightly mess on your furniture. Wax dries rather quickly and can adhere to fibers and fabrics, making removal difficult but not impossible. When removing the wax, take care not to damage your furniture's fibers or finish during the process.

Instructions

  1. Wax on Upholstery

    • 1

Preheat an iron on "Low" for several seconds. Lay a white cotton towel on top of the wax drippings.

    • 2

Rub the iron over the towel and wax drippings for several passes. Lift the towel up and examine the wax. If the wax is still present on the upholstery, continue with the remaining steps.

    • 3

Reposition the towel so a clean area is on the wax. Rub the iron over the towel and wax for several passes.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until all wax is removed.

    Wax on Wood Furniture

    • 5

Rub the wax drippings with an old dryer sheet. If the wax is still present, continue with the remaining steps.

    • 6

Apply heat to the wax drippings by moving a hair dryer back and forth above the wax.

    • 7

Wipe the softened wax from the wood furniture with a paper towel. Reapply heat if needed.

    • 8

Fill a small bowl with equal parts of water and white vinegar. Saturate a cloth in the mixture and wipe the waxy residue off the wood furniture. Dry with a towel.
