Leather Furniture Repair Products

If you care for it properly, leather furniture can last years and still look brand new. Proper care involves meticulous cleaning, conditioning and polishing. It also involves repairing the leather furniture as soon as you notice that it is scratched, torn or stiff. You can take the piece to a furniture repairman to repair the leather or you can attempt to fix it on your own. Take the furniture to a professional if it has an extensive tear that is in an easily visible area of the piece of furniture.
  1. Scratch Remover

    • Scratch repair will repair scuffs and light scratches on the leather furniture. After cleaning the leather, apply the leather preparation liquid to the scratches. This leather preparation liquid loosens the surface tension of the leather and enables the scratch repair to stick to the furniture and become integrated into the leather. Apply the scratch remover to the leather scratch. The scratch remover not only covers up the scratch, but it often contains polyester resins that will harden and prevent the scratch from tearing. Make sure to choose leather scratch remover that matches the color of your leather.

    Leather Glue

    • Leather glue is an adhesive that is strong enough to bind leather together, but flexible enough to hold its adhesive properly when the leather gets pulled and stretched. Leather glue is essential in repairing tears in leather furniture. Coat the underside of the leather and press it against the furniture's stuffing. Apply the glue to either side of a tear and press them together. Follow up this procedure with a leather filler to blend the color and hide the ripped area.

    Leather Filler

    • Leather will sometimes crack when it dries out. Leather repairmen use leather filler to fill the spaces in cracked leather. Leather filler contains filler compounds that, when they dry, resemble leather. Apply leather filler directly to the piece of furniture and cure it by heating it with a hairdryer or a heat lamp. The heating process will slightly melt the filler so that it can become integrated into the leather furniture. Avoid cracking your leather furniture by conditioning it regularly.
