How to Clean a Chaise Cushion

Upholstered furniture requires regular cleaning and care to maintain a clean appearance. A chaise is a deep chair with the footrest built in and a long cushion. Some chaises have removable cushion covers to allow a homeowner the option of laundering the cover. These are particularly nice if you have pets and small children or if the fabric on the furniture is of a type that stains easily or looks dirty quickly. If your chaise cover is not removable, you can still clean it.

Instructions

Pull the chaise out into the center of the room so that you can walk around it easily. Remove the cushions and vacuum the chaise using your small attachments. Pull fabric away from corners with your fingers so that you can reach into the cracks and crevices.

Drag a lint brush over the entire chaise to remove dog and cat hairs and small bits of clinging debris. If you discover caked-on stains, try to carefully scrape them off. Clean both the chaise and all loose cushions.

    • 3

Apply a small amount of upholstery stain remover to a hidden area of the chaise. Check the area 30 minutes after you apply the remover to see if the remover discolors the fabric. Once you know the product will work safely with your furniture, apply a small amount on a stain and draw the stain out of the fabric with paper towels by blotting. Treat every stain.

Place plastic sheeting over your carpet or flooring. Position your chaise on the plastic. Steam the entire chaise and cushions with a furniture steamer. Prop the loose cushions up so that they receive air on all sides. Reassemble your chaise once the chaise and cushions are dry.
