How to Get Rid of Pet Smell in a Leather Chair

Leather furniture is a good choice for pet owners, since the material is durable and naturally resistant to scratching. Removing pet hairs from leather furniture is as easy as wiping it down with a damp rag. Strong odors from your pet, however, including urine odor, require a thorough cleaning process. Find special cleaners that break down pet odors at a pet supply shop and plan to use other furniture while your chair airs out after the cleanse.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot up any pet waste on the chair using paper towels. If the pet odor does not contain urine, skip this step.

    • 2

Spray the chair using an enzymatic cleaning product designed to break down pet odors. Follow the directions on your cleaning product. Some prefer you to let the furniture air dry naturally while others may ask you to wipe it off.

    • 3

Check the furniture to see if it still smells. If so, repeat the cleaning process, then again allow the leather to air dry or wipe clean per the instructions.

    • 4

Dip a damp rag in saddle soap. Run the saddle soap along the contours of your leather chair until it foams. Wipe away the foam using another damp cloth. Repeat this process over the entire chair.

    • 5

Wipe the chair with a dry cloth to polish it.

    • 6

Apply leather conditioner to the chair to protect its surface, using a clean rag.
