How to Remove Crayon From Microsuede

Crayon marks on furniture and clothing is commonplace for most parents of young children. Knowing how to clean crayon stains is an important skill for those parents wishing to limit the encroachment of their child's artistic endeavors from the family sofa. Microsuede, like most synthetic microfibers, is easy to clean if you have the proper equipment and information. However, crayon marks can be particularly difficult given the waxy nature of the stain.

  • Water
  • Mild liquid soap
  • Clean terrycloth towel

Instructions

  1. Light Stain Removal

    • 1

Pretreat the crayon mark on the microfiber by spraying the affected area with a small amount of water mixed with a mild dish soap. The soap will help break up the waxy build-up of the crayon.

    • 2

Immediately rub the wet area using a terrycloth towel in a small circular pattern. Do not let the water dry into the surface or you will have a watermark in the microsuede.

    • 3

Repeat steps 1 and 2 several times until the crayon mark is no longer visible.

    • 4

Apply a small amount of specialized microfiber cleaner to the affected area, if the soap and water does not adequately remove the stain.

    • 5

Let the furniture dry completely before using it again.

    Heavy Duty Stain Removal

    • 6
For melted crayon or deep-set stains, follow these heavy duty procedures.

Scrape off excess crayon wax using the metal spoon.

    • 7

Apply the lubricant to the stained area. Let the stain soak for a few minutes.

    • 8

Brush the stain with the stiff bristle brush to work in the lubricant.

    • 9

Wipe up the lubricant and wax with paper towels.

    • 10

Re-apply the auto part lubricant with a drop or two of the mild liquid soap.

    • 11

Work the soap and lubricant mixture into the fabric with the brush. Wipe with paper towels.

    • 12

Clean and wipe the stained area with some warm water and the sponge.

    • 13

Repeat steps 5 and 6 if the stain persists.
