DIY: How to Cover a Pool Table

Pool tables are frequently found in game rooms and basements and can provide a useful activity when entertaining guests. Pool tables do not require much maintenance, but the table should be covered whenever not in use to prevent dust buildup, water damage from leaks or felt tears from objects being placed on the table unnecessarily. Felt can tear or stain very easily and pool table covers can be expensive. If you need to save money or require a short-term solution, a DIY pool table cover can be done quickly and simply.

Cardboard sheets
Two tablecloths
Two sleeping bags

  Lay a long sheet of cardboard down across the table to function as some added padding. If you don't have a single sheet that properly fits the table, use multiple pieces of cardboard and line them up next to each other.

  Drape a tablecloth across the pool table. One tablecloth is not likely to cover the entire table, so you will probably need a second one to keep the entire table protected from dirt and dust. You can either sew the tablecloths together to form a one-piece cover, or you can simply have each tablecloth cover one-half of the table and have them meet in the middle.

  Unzip sleeping bags if you don't have tablecloths available or if you want additional padding for the table. The unzipped bags will form large, padded sheets that can be used to protect the table surface from damage.
