Hints on How to Care for Scratches on Leather Furniture

Even though leather is a durable material, your pet's toenails and other sharp items can still leave scratches on leather furniture. When your leather furniture becomes damaged, you can pay a hefty price to have your it professionally repaired. On the other hand, you can first try to repair it yourself using a few inexpensive items.

  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Chamois
  • 2 lint-free cloths
  • Leather cleaner or olive oil
  • Leather conditioner

      Apply one to two drops of distilled water to the scratches. The leather should be damp not soggy. Applying too much water can create stains on your leather furniture.

      Rub the scratches gently with a chamois, which is a soft, leather cloth made from the hide of sheep. Rub in a circular motion with the chamois until the scratches are no longer visible.

      Dampen a lint-free cloth with leather cleaner. Rub the leather furniture with the damp cloth in a circular motion until the leather thoroughly cleaned. Alternatively, substitute olive oil for the leather cleaner.

      Apply two to three drops of leather conditioner to a clean, lint-free cloth. Buff the leather furniture with the cloth and allow to dry.
