Clean the damaged area on the vinyl or leather with a lint-free cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol. Let the item air dry.
Remove any loose threads hanging from the damaged leather or vinyl with scissors.
Cut a piece of backing fabric to a size slightly larger than the damage. The backing fabric is included in the repair kit. Lay the cut piece of backing fabric on the damaged area and gently press it inside the tear. Place any excess backing fabric underneath the undamaged vinyl or leather.
Refer to the color match guide included with the kit to find the correct color combination to match your item. Pour the appropriate colors into the mixing container and mix thoroughly with the spatula. The resulting mixture is your colored repair compound.
Test a small amount of the colored repair compound on the damaged area and allow it to dry. If the color does not match, refer to the color-matching guide once again.
Spread the appropriately colored repair compound over the damage leather or vinyl. Use the spatula to spread the compound evenly and smoothly over the area. Leave the colored repair compound to dry for 1 hour. The compound will have a tacky feel to it.
Spread a thin, second layer of the compound over the damage. Press the grain paper on top of the damaged area. Place a heavy object, such as a book, on top of the paper and let it dry for four hours.
Pull the grain paper gently off the compound. If the compound is still wet, replace the grain paper, lay the book on top of the paper and allow it to dry for three hours.
