How to Safely Clean Raw Silk Furniture

Raw silk is commonly made from the natural protein fibers of silkworm cocoons. The fine, smooth silk threads are woven into a luxurious fabric ideal for making furniture upholstery. When dirt, debris and spills build up on your raw silk furniture, clean it carefully to maintain the quality of the fabric. Avoid soaking silk with water or chemical cleaners because they can cause spotting and bleed the color. Although raw silk can be quite durable, gentle cleaning methods should be used to maintain its color and texture. Use dry cleaning methods whenever possible.
