How to Clean Outdoor Wicker

Made from weaving together vines, plants and grass, wicker is a common material for outdoor furniture. Even though wicker is durable, Mother Nature will still take her wrath out on the furniture. Excess heat, moisture and bird droppings all lead to dingy and dirty looking wicker furniture. Fortunately, you can restore the look of your outdoor wicker furniture while prolonging its life with the proper care and cleaning.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a tarp down on a flat area of your yard. Move any large sticks or rocks out of the way. Place the wicker furniture on top of the tarp.

    • 2

Secure the upholstery brush attachment to your vacuum. Turn the vacuum on and run the upholstery brush over the wicker furniture. Begin at the top and work your way down.

    • 3

Fill a bucket with 2 cups cool water and 1/4 cup of liquid dish soap. Mix the contents vigorously with a whisk until suds form. To remove mold, mildew or odors from wicker furniture, add 1 cup of white vinegar to the mixture.

    • 4

Scoop the suds off the top of the mixture with a damp cloth. Start at the top of the wicker furniture and wipe with the sudsy sponge while working downward. Use a toothbrush to scrub stuck on dirt and grime off the wicker.

Rinse the suds off the wicker with a clean damp sponge. Let the wicker furniture dry completely before using it.
