Wipe the surface clean with a moist, soft cloth. Then wipe it dry with a dry, soft cloth. Daily cleaning in this manner can minimize the need for chemical cleansers.
Clean the surface with stone soap or a neutral pH cleanser to remove heavy soil or as maintenance cleaning once a week or so. Apply a small amount of the cleaner (excess solution may leave a film behind) to a moist, soft towel and wipe the surface clean using circular motions. Then wipe with a clean, moist rag to remove any residue. Finally, dry with a soft cloth.
Remove oil-based stains (they leave darkened areas in the marble) with a soft cloth dampened with bleach, ammonia, mineral spirits or acetone (never use more than one product at a time). Scrub the stain until it is gone. Then wipe with a wet sponge to flush the solution out of the pores. Dry the area with a clean cloth. Wait a few hours for the marble to dry completely. If some of the stain still remains, repeat.
Remove organic stains (often a pinkish-brown mark) with a solution of 12-percent concentration hydrogen peroxide to which three to four drops of ammonia have been added. Moisten a soft cloth with the solution and scrub vigorously. Then wipe with a wet sponge to flush the solution out of the pores. Wipe the area dry with a cloth. Wait a few hours for the marble to dry completely. If some of the stain still remains, repeat.
Buff water stains out with grade 0000 steel wool. Scrub the water stains using a circular motion until they are gone. Wipe the area clean with a soft, dry cloth.
