How to Clean Weathered Teak Wood

Teak wood is often used for furniture, boats and any other outdoor setting where a durable, weather-resistant surface is required. New teak wood is an attractive golden brown color, but exposure to the elements can leave a silvery gray patina behind. Regular cleaning can remove some of the patina and get rid of mold and mildew, which feed on teak oil and moisture. Clean your weathered teak wood with products made specifically for teak to prevent damage to the wood.

Garden hose
Teak cleaner
2 or 3 cloths
Bristle brush
Towel
Teak protector

Instructions

  Rinse the weathered teak with a garden hose to remove any loose dirt or debris.

  Apply teak cleaner to a cloth. Rub the cloth over the weathered teak wood, adding more cleaner as needed until the wood is completely saturated.

  Scrub the teak wood thoroughly with a bristle brush, and allow the cleaner to sit for 15 minutes.

  Rinse the teak wood with a garden hose to remove any cleaner or debris.

  Dry the teak wood with a towel.

  Apply teak protector to a cloth according to the package instructions. Rub a thin layer over the weathered teak wood, and remove any excess with a clean cloth.
