Pour 1 cup of food-grade mineral oil into a bowl. You can use any edible oil that does not have a taste.
Warm the bowl of oil in a microwave for 10 seconds.
Dip a sponge into the oil and apply the oil to the cutting board, following the grain of the wood. Cover the entire cutting surface.
Let the oil coat dry for 30 minutes. Apply three more coats of oil, allowing a 30-minute drying time between each coat.
Store the board on its side after the last coat dries. Once a month, give the board one coat of oil.
