How to Care for Terracotta Cookware

Terra cotta cookware is made from clay, and is used frequently in one-pot cooking. The cookware retains liquid and cooks food evenly by circulating steam and heat over the food. The pots and dishes are dishwasher- and microwave-safe. They are also easy to clean and store. It is necessary to season a terra cotta piece before its first use.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill your sink with water and submerge the terra cotta cookware in the water. Let it soak for six hours before its first use.

    • 2

Set the cookware on a drying rack to air-dry completely for 24 hours.

    • 3

Use a heat diffuser if you are cooking with terra cotta cookware on an electric or gas range. This prevents scorching of the pot and the food.

    • 4

Wash the cookware in warm water after each use. You can use liquid dish soap, if necessary. Scrub the inside of the pot with soapy water to remove stubborn stains or stuck-on food. Rinse the soap out completely.
