How to Clean Poly Bead Pillows

Polyester bead pillows may have removable covers for easy laundering, or they may have attached covers that need to be vacuumed, spot-cleaned and disinfected without removal. Common poly bead pillow coverings include vinyl, cotton, canvas and polyester. Choose a cleanser that addresses the specific type of fabric covering the beans, as well as the type of cleansing the beanbag needs.

Instructions

  1. Cleaning Vinyl- or Plastic-covered Poly Bead Pillows

    • 1

Wipe all soiled areas off of the pillow with a mixture of liquid dish detergent and warm water, using a clean cloth. Do not use abrasive detergents, as these may damage the fabric.

    • 2

Scrub any difficult spots gently with a toothbrush.

    • 3

Dry the surface of the beanbag using a clean cloth.

Cleaning Cotton-, Canvas- or Polyester-covered Poly Bead Pillows

    • 4

Vacuum the bag, if necessary. Vacuuming is the best method of removing pet hair, sand, crumbs and loose soil from fabric.

    • 5

Remove the fabric cover, if possible. Use laundry detergent and a washing machine to wash the cover in a gentle cycle. Dry it on a cool setting or air dry to avoid shrinkage.

    • 6

Wash spots off of nonremovable fabric covers with liquid detergent, warm water and a clean cloth. Be careful not to soak the fabric so that it does not take too long to air dry.

    • 7

Remove any difficult spots with a stain stick or spray stain-remover and toothbrush.

    • 8

Dry the pillow using a clean cloth. You may also use a hair dryer on a cool setting.

    • 9

Remove odors by spraying the beanbag with disinfectant, if desired.
