How Do I Clean Cut Velvet Upholstery?

Cut velvet upholstery requires special care and maintenance to retain its luxurious, high-end look. Stains should be cleaned as soon as they happen to keep them from setting into the upholstery fabric. Avoid hard scrubbing as this can weaken the fabric. When cleaning cut velvet upholstery blot, don't rub, to avoid spreading the stain.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a few squirts of dishwashing liquid with warm water to make a sudsy solution. Alternatively, use a small amount of dry cleaning solvent.

    • 2

Dip the soft cloth into the suds or dry cleaning solvent. Do not saturate the cloth. Dab the solvent or sudsy cloth onto the stain and blot the fabric until the stain begins to disappear.

    • 3

Use a clean, dry cloth to blot away the cleaning solution and any remaining stain on the fabric.

    • 4

Set the blow dryer to a low or medium setting and direct the warm air at the stain to dry the fabric.

    • 5

Use the upholstery brush to fluff and reset the nap once the fabric has dried.
