How to Remove a Mold Smell From Furniture

Furniture with a moldy, musty smell can make your whole home smell unpleasant. If you're using antique furniture, or your things were stored in a smelly basement for awhile, the smell can linger even if they aren't in that environment anymore. Make sure there isn't any actual mold on your furniture that take away some of the smell, although not all of it. Removing the moldy smell will provide more enjoyment from your furniture and make your home smell fresher.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your furniture outside. Sitting furniture outside in the sun and air can help dissipate bad smells. Leave it outside for as long as you can in the sunshine.

    • 2

Make a solution of vinegar and water. Fill a plastic spray bottle more than halfway with vinegar then add water to the top and shake. Spray the furniture down heavily with the solution and let it dry or wipe clean.

    • 3

Sprinkle baking soda over the furniture. Allow it to sit overnight. Baking soda soaks up odors and neutralizes them. In the morning, vacuum the baking soda up or wipe it clean.

Rent or purchase a steam cleaner if the smell remains. This will get rid of any remaining mold, which should in turn remove any lasting odors from the furniture.
