How to Freshen a Leather Chair

The soft suppleness of a leather chair needs your attention periodically to keep it fresh and clean. Dust, dirt and odors in the air can accumulate in your leather chair and can dull the sheen. Keep a supply of clean, lint-free or microfiber cloths on hand for quick cleanups and to whisk away spills. Place your leather chair away from direct sunlight and avoid moisture. With a little attention and occasional freshening, your leather chair should give you years of beautiful service.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove your leather chair's seat cushion, if possible. Vacuum or use a whisk broom to remove all dust, dirt and debris that may have dropped into seat crevices. Brush or vacuum around your leather chair's arms and near the base.

    • 2

Daub a microfiber cloth with a commercial leather conditioner. Be sure the product is safe for leather and doesn't contain alcohol or chemical solvents that can dry leather or ruin leather pigments.

    • 3

Wipe your leather chair gently from top to bottom, left to right. Pay special attention to the head-rest area and arms, where body oils can accumulate and attract odors.

    • 4

Freshen the leather seat on all sides. Use your fingertip wrapped in the moistened cloth to clean along ridges, trim and in between folds or pleats.

    • 5

Buff your leather chair and the seat with a clean, soft cloth. Replace the seat.
