How to Clean Wooden Kitchen Chairs

While many people wipe down their kitchen table every day, they often forget about their chairs. If you take a few moments to clean your kitchen chairs with a white cloth, you might be surprised to find out just how dirty they are. If they are brown, black or some other dark color that doesn't readily show dirt, you probably can't see the accumulated food spills, fingerprints and general grime. Cleaning wooden chairs is easy, but because wood can be easily damaged, there are a few special steps to follow to clean them safely.

  1. Cleaning Chairs with Oiled Finishes Such as Varnish, Shellac or Tung oil

    • 1

Mix together the boiled linseed oil, gum turpentine and distilled white vinegar. Wear protective gloves, being careful not to get the mixture on your skin. Do not use these ingredients around a spark or flame.

Dip a soft, clean cloth into the mixture while wearing dish washing gloves, and wring it out well.

    • 3

Wipe the cloth over all areas of the chair. Do not pour the mixture directly onto the chair.
