How to Repair the Tire on a Pram

A pram is basically the same as a stroller. However, pram stroller tires are filled with air, much like a bike tire. Inside a pram tire is an inner tube. If the pram tire becomes punctured, you will probably need to patch the inner tube. Since these wheels are generally small and light in weight, patching and remounting the pram wheel is something anyone can accomplish.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the wheel from your pram. Some prams have a quick-release tab you lift and then pull the wheel off. Other prams have nuts holding the wheel in place. Use a wrench to remove the nuts and slide the wheel off the pram.

    • 2

To remove the tire from the hub, press the air nozzle in until all the air has escaped. Use a screwdriver to gently lift the inside of the wheel over the edge of the hub. Use another screwdriver to work the wheel off the hub.

    • 3

Use the scuffing tool provided in a pram tire repair kit to rough up the area of the tube surrounding the puncture.

    • 4

Apply the patching glue to the scuffed area. The gluey area should be larger than the patch. Wait for the glue to almost dry before applying the patch. Place the patch over the puncture and hold it there to allow the glue to set.

    • 5

Place the tire partially back onto the hub. Work the patched tube into the tire and work the air stem through the hole. Push the tube into the tire, making sure that it does not get twisted.

    • 6

Use a screwdriver to pop the edge of the tire back into place on the hub. Work in small sections all the way around the tire until it is set. Make sure the tube does not get pinched between the wheel and the hub.

    • 7

Use a hand pump to refill the tire. Pump eight or nine times and then make sure the tire is sitting evenly all the way around the hub.

    • 8

Put the tire back on the axle. If your wheel was held in place with nuts, replace the nuts and tighten with a wrench. Finish filling the tire with air.
