How to Clean Brocade Furniture

Brocade is a richly textured woven fabric with a distinctive raised pattern. Occasional light brushing and vacuuming can keep brocade furniture looking fresh. Special care should be taken to remove stains from brocade upholstery in order to avoid damaging the fabric. Furniture specialists recommend professional dry-cleaning for heavy stain removal, but if the stains are not too extensive, you can try spot cleaning small areas yourself.

Instructions

  1. General Cleaning

    • 1

Clean up stains as soon as they occur. Blot liquid stains instead of rubbing to avoid smearing or spreading the stain.

    • 2

Brush your brocade furniture with a soft brush periodically to remove dust and loose dirt. Give special attention to armrests and headrests, which generally attract the most dirt and oils.

    • 3

Use the vacuum attachment periodically to pick up loose dirt, pet hair, crumbs or other small particles.

    Light Stain Removal

    • 4

Pour a small amount of solvent on a cloth and apply it to a small, hidden area to test for color-fastness. If the fabric becomes discolored or damaged, consult a furniture specialist or dry cleaning professional. Do not try anything else at home.

    • 5

Apply the cleaning solvent to the stained area by pouring it on a clean cloth and blotting the fabric. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center, and use clean areas of the cloth as you work to avoid reapplying the stain.

    • 6

Use a fan or hair dryer on a low setting to dry the fabric or allow it to air dry.
