How to Keep My Drawers From Slamming Shut

Kitchen drawers will break and the slide mechanism may buckle from continuous slamming. Home improvement and hardware stores stock soft close drawer dampers that work like a slow moving piston. The dampers are attached to the inside of kitchen drawers or cupboards and act as a buffer when the drawer or door is closed. The dampers will not take long to fit into the drawers and only need a screwdriver to attach them to the interior.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the drawer and lift it out of the slider mechanism. Put the drawer aside.

    • 2

Hold the damper in place and mark the screw holes with a bradawl. The damper will be attached to either the top or side of the drawer frame. Ensure the damper piston end is protruding from the drawer frame.

    • 3

Attach the screws with a screwdriver. Turn the screw clockwise until the heads are flush with the surface and hold the damper in place.

    • 4

Replace the kitchen drawer and test the damper.
