How to Cut Foam Mattress Pads

Foam mattress pads come in various thicknesses and sizes to accommodate all mattress sizes. They lay on top of a mattress to make it firmer or softer, depending on the density of the foam pad. If you have a foam mattress pad that is larger than the size of your mattress, you must cut it down to size. To cut a foam mattress pad, you can use an electric knife to slice through the foam quickly without shredding it.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the mattress on which you want to put the foam pad.

    • 2

Lay a large piece of cardboard or plywood on top of the work surface to protect it, and lay the foam mattress pad on top of it. If the foam mattress has a textured surface, position it facing downward.

    • 3

Use the tape measure and a marker to transfer the measurements of the actual mattress onto the pad.

    • 4

Ask another person to hold the foam mattress pad in place and position the knife at one end of the marker line so that the blade is perpendicular to the foam pad.

    • 5

Press the trigger on the electric knife. and pull it slowly through the foam mattress pad, keeping it perpendicular the entire time.

    • 6

Turn off the knife and pull off the excess piece of foam. Place the properly sized foam mattress pad on top of the mattress.
